About Us

The Oban & Lorn Fairtrade Steering Group is a group of people from Oban and the surrounding area who are passionate about the difference that buying fair trade products can make to the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. The Group formed in 2005 with the aim of making Oban a Fairtrade Town, achieving this status in 2006.

We aim to provide local residents and community groups in Oban and Lorn with information about fair trade and development issues, and to encourage local groups to hold fair trade events, especially during the annual Fairtrade Fortnight.

By supporting development education and fair trade in schools and encouraging local businesses to stock, use and promote fair trade products, we hope to increase awareness of fair trade amongst local consumers, retailers and community leaders.

We also maintain the Oban & Lorn Fairtrade Directory. This is a comprehensive list of all the businesses and organisations in Oban and the surrounding area which use, serve or stock fair trade goods.

On our website, you can find out a little more about fair trade, latest news and where you can get Fairtrade products locally. If you would like to know about fair trade or feel inspired to get involved please contact us.

We are very grateful to the Co-operative Community Fund for their grant which enabled us to develop this website.
